All the stats come out now... first back to back division titles in 100 years, first clinch this early since the 1930's, first no-hitter since the 1970's. All good signs, but too early to really celebrate. We all remember what happened last year... 3 and out. We need to collectively hold our breaths until we actually start to produce in the post season.
So, what will happen?? If the last hundred years are any indication, we will blow it.. I have more hope than that, and buy into Lou's train of thought. He says you can't hold this 2008 Chicago Cubs team accountable for the last 100 years, they have to stand on their own merit. Just like probabilities and chance, every year could be the year. The last 99 years do not make it more difficult to win it all, it just adds a bit more pressure. Pressure from themselves, from the media, from the city, and most of all... THE FANS. There are no fans left from 1908 world series (if they are they were too young to remember (or care)), so all Cubbies fans are hopping to see it for the first time. Many have said 'I just want to see them win the series before I die', and many have not been able to live that long.
On a lighter note, we clinched the NL Central Division with 2 weeks left to play. We can make sure people get the rest they need or the work they need. We can strategize and plan our attack (once we know who we are playing). Things are looking bright, but as always, we will wait and see. So is 'next year' here? No one will know until it all unfolds.
GO CUBS!!!
